# personality.

nathaniel has always possessed a gentle personality. so much so, that his peers would tell him to " toughen up " and not show any mercy to sinners. humans, especially. even as a seraph, he would judge those accused as mercifully as possible and would only outright condemn someone, if there was no doubt about their crimes against god. as the eldest of the seven seraphim, he assumed a leadership role, despite his personality. and his peers would follow, albeit sometimes doubting his impartiality. he was always been the " odd " one ; enjoying walks amongst humans, while hiding his true nature and holding immense curiosity about their way of life and the complexity of their emotions.one of his hobbies was to bring books back and study them in his privacy. primarily, romantic novels that he didn't quite understand in their entirety. how could two people care about each other this much ? he only understood when he fell in love as well. or rather, he understood in parts. he's always been loyal to god and heaven. even after being casted out, his loyalty doesn't waver. and although he has no contact with his kin anymore, he often looks to the sky and prays in his peers' and in god's name.due to the agony nathaniel went through in the hands of his siblings and before being casted out, he developed an alter ego, that calls themselves " nephilim ". they claim to be a genderless individual, who curses god and resorts to violence, in order to release their ( and nathaniel's ) bottled up frustration. when nephilim takes over, nathaniel falls into a state of dissociation and is unresponsive, until they reverse places again. nephilim, unlike nathaniel, is a hot - headed and violent persona, who won't hesitate to harm or kill. when nathaniel is in control of his body, nephilim can speak to him in the form of a voice in his head.

# summary.

nathaniel is one of the seven seraphim. in other words, one of the highest ranking celestial beings in the hierarchy of angels. he was the first of the seraphim god ever created ; thus, assuming a leadership role from the moment of his very creation. seraphim are said to be judges & executioners. in other words, those who punish sinners and purge them from god's world.nathaniel was never one for outright violence and would judge the accused as mercifully as possible. he witnessed the rise and fall of civilisations ; the death of guilty and innocents. and during the medieval era, he began to descend the heavens regularly, in order to observe humans. during one such endeavour, he became acquainted with a mortal man. his name was arthur gabe. he was a simple farmer, but through frequent interactions and with arthur's kindness towards what appeared as an odd stranger, nathaniel found himself falling in love with him.but due to his own nature and position, he never expressed said emotions. he was happy just being in arthur's presence. and eventually, he had to endure the heartbreak of seeing him get married and having a son. but despite his own, selfish sorrow, he was also happy for arthur. his wife was the only one who could offer him a normal life and nathaniel was content with just watching them from above.a few years passed like that ; three, to be accurate. the family seemed to thrive, despite not being rich. but suddenly, arthur's wife was accused of witchcraft and the entire family was seized. the wife was to be burnt for her sins, while arthur would be executed publicly for covering for her. their child was labeled " a witch's spawn " and nathaniel knew instantly that only death awaited him as well.unable to bear such tragedy, he stepped in. not bothering to conceal his true nature. with his power as a seraph, he forced the ones loyal to god to release the family and grant them favour. such was done, for nobody could deny nathaniel's authority in the heavens.he remained with arthur and his family for a couple of days, urging them to pack and move away, before the worst knocked on their door. then he was forced to return to heaven.for his insolence and disloyalty, he was tortured and punished for so long, that he lost track of time and sight of arthur. then he was cast out of heaven never to be heard from again.nowadays, he seems to have settled in the united kingdom, working with the local cathedral. he uses his real name and the last name gabe. sometimes he's a priest, other times a monk . . . nobody knows where he came from, or who he really is.

powers and abilities.

superhuman strength + speed but can be rivaled by abilities of other divine beings. although he's the first and the eldest of the seraphim, he's the least skilled in battle. nathaniel was more of a diplomat and mediator. powerful demons and lucifer himself can easily overpower him in combat. in short, he has enhanced abilities but lacks training and experience.immortality as a divine being, nathaniel is immortal. he doesn't age, regardless of how much time has passed. he can alter his appearance to make himself appear older, but he doesn't age naturally, like a human would.healing abilities his natural healing abilities are enhanced to a degree and he will recover from otherwise fatal wounds without a scar remaining.

although nathaniel's healing abilities are accelarated due to his nature, wounds caused by divine beings or weapons take a lot longer to heal and most of the times will leave scars for eternity. such is the case when the wings on his back were ripped off and when he was flagellated and crucified for seven days as punishment for his " sins ". other non - human creatures can have the same effect, though it depends on the type of creature and their individual strength. demons can cause severe damage, provided the demon themselves is powerful enough and close to lucifer in rank. some powerful vampires can also cause wounds that take longer to heal, however, vampires cannot kill nathaniel.

food & rest.

although he's not mortal, his body was weakened after being casted out of heaven and him spending too long amongst mortals. he can go without food and rest for longer periods of time than any human, but he does need them in order to survive. he's an insomniac, so oftentimes, he doesn't get the rest he needs, when he needs it. in his mind, this is just more punishments for his sins.

heightened emotions.

he feels strongly. mostly positive emotions, such as love and compassion. so much so, that he will sacrifice his own needs to ensure those of a loved one are fulfilled. he knew that coming to arthur's aid would likely put him in severe trouble and even potentially cost him his place amongst the heavens. and yet, he didn't think twice about descending and showing himself as the first seraph. on the contrary, he doesn't hold onto negative emotions, such as hatred and revenge, unless they're directed at himself. his own self - hatred never fades, nor do his regrets when he does something that cannot be changed, later down the line.

the broken halo.

nathaniel does have a halo of his own. however, it was purposely cracked during his punishment and prior to his expulsion. this is his greatest shame in existence and he wouldn't be able to face himself or anybody, if it was in view. thus, he's found a way to conceal it. not only does that allow him to somewhat blend in with humans, it also ensures that god's devotees do not question his authenticity or call him a sinner as well.

the four wings.

seraphim are said to be divine beings with four wings. in their most " humane " form, they have a pair of wings on their back and a pair on their head, behind their ears. the wings on nathaniel's back were ripped of during his punishment, but the ones on his head were left alone. those cannot be hidden and can be moved individually. nathaniel uses them to hide his face when he's flustered, but they can also react automatically, depending on his emotions. they perk and the feathers ruffle up when he's angry, scared or flustered and they sometimes flap when he's happy or excited. plucking feathers from his wings can be quite painful and it's one of his only pet peeves. as is touching his wings without explicit permission, which he usually won't grant. humans, in modern times, often think his wings are props and that he's cosplaying. nathaniel doesn't fully understand that concept, but he plays along.
